AdBlue System

Modified on Tue, 31 Oct, 2023 at 4:03 PM

AdBlue® is a vital fluid that contributes to reducing the emissions produced by modern diesel engines. This solution consists of 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionised water and is specifically designed to meet environmental regulations by helping to decrease harmful exhaust gases.

Your INTERSTATE motorhome is equipped with a 19L AdBlue® tank. The amount of AdBlue® used can vary based on your driving style and conditions, but on average, you may consume between 2-9L per 1000 kilometres.

Understanding Your AdBlue® System

AdBlue® is automatically injected into the exhaust gases from your motorhome's engine. The solution breaks down dangerous nitrogen oxides into harmless nitrogen and water, helping to significantly reduce the emissions released into the atmosphere.

When to Refill Your AdBlue® Tank

Your motorhome will keep you informed about the AdBlue® levels. An alert message or warning light on your instrument panel will notify you when it's time to refill your AdBlue® tank. As a tip, we recommend keeping your AdBlue® topped up, particularly before embarking on long journeys. Please note, if the AdBlue® tank becomes completely empty, the engine will not start!

How to Refill Your AdBlue® Tank

Refilling your AdBlue® tank is a simple process that you can do yourself, or you can reach out to our Service Network for assistance. Always ensure to consult your Owner Handbook for full instructions.

Here's a brief overview:

  1. Recognise the AdBlue® Alert: When the AdBlue® level is low, you'll see a warning light or symbol on your dashboard. A message will also appear, advising you to refill the tank with at least 5 litres of AdBlue®.
  2. Locate the AdBlue® Tank Cap: This cap is generally found next to the fuel filler cap, though in some models, it may be in the engine compartment.
  3. Refill the AdBlue® Tank: Using a filling pump, can, or bottle, top up the tank. Always ensure to add at least 5 litres of AdBlue®. If any AdBlue® spills, clean the area thoroughly, and if the liquid crystallises, use a sponge and warm water to remove it.
  4. Confirm the Alert is Gone: Once you've topped up the tank, turn the ignition to the MAR/RUN/ON position and wait for the warning lights on the display to switch off before starting the engine. If the AdBlue® tank was completely empty before the refill, this could take up to 2 minutes.

Remember, AdBlue® is an essential part of maintaining the efficiency and environmental impact of your INTERSTATE motorhome. Keeping your AdBlue® levels in check ensures a smoother, greener journey.
