Welcome to your step-by-step guide for using the Thetford Topline 922 Cooker. Before we start, ensure you have a good understanding of the basic safety precautions when dealing with gas and electrical appliances.
Getting Started
Step 1: Check the Gas Supply
Make sure your gas bottle is connected and turned on. This is your primary fuel source for the cooker. If you're not sure how to do this, refer to the user manual that came with your motorhome.
Step 2: Power Up
Next, activate the 12V power switch on the Redarc control panel. This is required to trigger the automatic ignition system of the Thetford Cooker.
Igniting the Burners
Each burner on the Thetford Topline 922 Cooker can be controlled individually and is monitored by a thermocouple probe to ensure safe operation.
Step 3: Ignite the Burner
- Press in the control knob of the burner you want to use and rotate it anticlockwise to the full rate position, marked by a large flame symbol.
- Keep holding the knob depressed. The automatic ignition should light the burner. For manual models, hold a lighted match or taper to the burner.
- Once the burner is lit, continue holding the knob for approximately 10-15 seconds.
- Release the knob and adjust to your desired heat setting.
- If the burner hasn't lit within 15 seconds, release the knob and wait for at least 1 minute before repeating steps 1-4.
- To turn off the burner, rotate the control knob until the line on the knob is aligned with the dot on the control panel.
Dos and Don'ts
DO:
- Read the user instructions carefully before using the appliance for the first time.
- Allow the burners to heat before using for the first time to expel any unfamiliar smells.
- Clean the appliance regularly and remove spills as soon as they occur.
- Ensure that the controls are in the off position when finished.
DON'T:
- Allow children near the appliance when in use. Always turn pan handles away from the front to prevent accidental knocks.
- Allow fats or oils to build up in the base of the hotplate.
- Use abrasive cleaners or powders that may scratch the surfaces of the hotplate.
- Use the appliance as a space heater under any circumstances.
Detecting and Managing Gas Leaks
If you detect the smell of gas:
- Turn off the gas at the cylinder IMMEDIATELY.
- Extinguish any naked flames, including cigarettes and pipes, and avoid operating electrical switches.
- Open all doors and windows to help disperse any gas that may have escaped. LPG is heavier than air and will collect at a low level.
- Remember that the strong, unpleasant smell of gas will help you detect the general area of the leak.
- Make sure that the gas isn't escaping from an unlit appliance.
- NEVER check for leaks with a naked flame. Use a leak detector spray or a soapy solution.
By following these steps and safety guidelines, you'll be able to enjoy your Thetford Topline 922 Cooker safely and efficiently.
