Before Usage

IMPORTANT: Before switching on your Webasto Air-conditioner, check to ensure that the supply voltage and frequency match those of the air conditioner.

Check the amperage supplied by the external power source to confirm it is sufficient. You must completely unwind the extension cable to the vehicle to prevent overheating and voltage loss. Ensure the extension cable is at least 3 x 2.5 mm² in cross section.

Make sure the air outlet and intake grilles are free from any obstructions, such as clothes, paper, or other objects.

Your Webasto Air-conditioner comes with a handy remote control. Insert batteries by removing the back cover and inserting 2 x 1.5V AAA LR3 batteries. Make sure the batteries won't leak.

When using the remote control, aim it at the air distributor to guarantee good signal transmission. You'll know the signal has been received when the air distributor beeps once and the digital temperature display illuminates on the underside of the unit.

Remember to set the clock (see section 5.10 for instructions). If you select the COOL or HEAT mode, the compressor might take up to 3 minutes to start. This delay is a built-in feature to protect the compressor.

Achieving Effective Heating and Cooling

Many factors can affect the total heat load within your vehicle and the working efficiency of the air conditioner. Before purchasing Cool Top Trail air conditioners, consult with the vehicle manufacturer to understand the total heat load of your vehicle and choose the correct air conditioner accordingly.

To reduce the heat load within a vehicle and improve the performance of the air conditioner, follow these tips:

  • Park the vehicle in the shade if possible.
  • Position the vehicle with the sunshade on the sun-side to reduce direct sunshine exposure.
  • Keep all doors, skylights, and windows closed, and curtains drawn. Open the sunshade or awning.
  • Turn off unnecessary electrical appliances within the vehicle to reduce the heat-load.
  • Cook outside the vehicle when possible.
  • On exceptionally hot days, start the air-conditioner in the morning.
  • Ventilate your vehicle by opening doors and windows before starting the A/C unit if the vehicle interior has heated up.
  • Regularly clean the vehicle’s roof because dirty roofs heat up more.

Dealing with Condensation

When warm, moist air within the vehicle meets a cold surface, condensation or "sweating" may occur. To deal with this:

  • Ensure all doors, skylights, and windows are closed and sealed to reduce the entrance of warm moist air.
  • Operate the inside fan on high speed, avoid low and auto fan speeds.

During the operation of the air conditioner, condensation water will be produced and will naturally drain onto the roof. This is normal. The amount of condensation water is determined by air humidity. High humidity inside the vehicle will result in more condensation water being generated. Please note that losses or damages caused by condensation water are not covered under warranty.

Choosing and Using a Generator

The Cool Top Trail 20/24 requires a mains quality AC power source for correct operation. If you decide to supply power using a generator, you must consult the generator supplier to confirm suitability and sizing of the generator for your application. Damages caused by the use of a generator are not covered under warranty.
